Why budgeting and saving are important - Updated Nov. 2025

Welcome, I’m so glad you’re here. If you've ever wondered why budgeting and saving are important, you'll find helpful answers and simple strategies here.

If you’re anything like me (and many others right now), you’ve probably felt the strain of rising prices, uncertain markets, and that feeling that your paycheck just doesn’t stretch the way it used to.

It’s a shared reality. Studies show that nearly 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. That stat isn’t meant to scare or shame anyone; it’s simply a reminder that we’re not alone in this.

That’s one of the reasons I started this blog: to create a space where we can have real, down-to-earth conversations about money, budgeting, saving, and building a sense of control over our financial lives.

Why I Started This Blog: To show why budgeting and saving are important.

Over the years, I’ve seen how financial stress can weigh people down, individuals, families, and entire communities. I’ve also seen the confidence and peace that can come when we start learning to manage our money in small, steady ways.

I’m not here as an expert who has it all figured out; I’m just someone who’s learned a few things through writing, research, trial, and error. This blog is a way to explore those ideas with you and pass along what’s worked for me and others.

Here, we’ll explore:

  • The basics of budgeting

  • Long-term saving habits

  • Simple financial principles like my updated 65-10-15-10 thinking

  • And some of the economic trends that affect our day-to-day spending and decisions

What is my updated 65-10-15-10 Thinking?

* 65% for Needs (housing, food, transportation, insurance)

* 10% for Savings (emergency fund, short-term goals)

* 15% for Investing & Growth (retirement, wealth building)

* 10% for Giving or Debt Payoff

It’s not about being rigid; it’s just a helpful way to think about money that brings balance and intention:

Example:

If you bring home $ 5,000 per month, you'll have...

  • $3,250.00 for Needs

  • $500.00 for Saving

  • $750.00 for Investing

  • $500.00 for Giving

It's not about perfecting it; It's about creating momentum in the right direction.
